I finally found something I've been searching for at the Goodwill. (you annoying GW haters please keep your comments to yourself. if i had a dime for every time people bugged me about the goodwill I would own the goodwill by now.)
A super duper awesome treadmill for $55 that is perfect in every way! Woohooo!!!
(this is just a picture from the internet, but the treadmill is the same one.)
So yes. It's awesome. I've used it everyday since I got it home last week. (thanks super friend Audrey for picking it up for me.) I'm already addicted. I had to convince myself to take a day off today (the first day since I got it, except Sunday of course) cause Tyler says I'm going to hurt myself.
So here comes the part where I need running advice. Like, how often people run per week, for how long, and random simple things like that. All in all I guess I'm asking for kinda lame advice...nothing too exciting. I'm not looking to run any marathons or anything, I just really want to exercise. I'd also be interested in what shoes people prefer or where they like to get them cause mine are pretty old.
the end. :)

Good for you running! Yes, good shoes are important. I like New Balance, but I'm not really a pro.
One important thing that I did learning during my "running life" is that it is important to do strength building/cross training on opposite days of running. Otherwise you ruin knees and feet. :( Just mix the running with some other things (weights with vegetable cans, or something).
I do a 35 minute treadmill workout. I jog for 2 mins, run for 1 min and then sprint for 30 seconds....I do that set 10 times which ends up being 35 mins. On my treadmill my "jog" is at speed 6, "run" is at speed 7 and "sprint" is at speed 8.
It works for me. And it helps the time go by fast too.
Way to go Katie! The only advice I have is to stretch before and after - helps keep you limber and flexible - you'll appreciate it later when you get old like me. I am not a runner, consequently no other advice is to be had. BUT I'M VERY PROUD OF YOU!
Way to go Katie! You will love running! I highly suggest a good set of shoes that cater to your foot.
You can go to any store that is specifically for runners and they will tell you if you need a shoe that compensates for someone who suppenates or pronates. Try a bunch of shoes on at the store and decide which one you want and then -- don't buy it! Go to Amazon.com and get them for $20-50 cheaper!
Getting a comfortable shoe that fits your running style will really help you go faster and farther!
Wow! What a great deal! We just recently got a treadmill from Darrin and Jenni and it is great, but I am struggling. I liked Team Serra's comment, and I think I might try it. I just get bored. So far, for me, it has been much easier to run outside.
In the past I would run three days a week. Right now I'm supposed to be running four days a week. I like to have off days because it helps my body rest and it makes it so I still like to run. Everyone says you're supposed to cross train, but I am not good at that. It's my goal to do yoga on my off days since that is supposed to be a good injury prevention measure for runners and it feels good.
I think getting fitted for running shoes is pretty important.
Good luck with your running!
I know I already wrote a novel, but I thought I'd add that I do three short runs on the weekdays and longer runs on Saturday. Also, my current shoes are Mizunos and I LOVE them!
hey cool treadmill! GoodWill is awesome! We got a new blog url cause our old one wouldn't let me log into it anymore, here it is: www.chewyadina.blogspot.com check us out!
You would be so rich!
who's goodwill hating on you? i only wish i could get GW credit when i dump stuff off, then spend it again at the store.
anyway, nice running goals. since i'm practically a professional, almost olympic-ish athlete, here's my advice: listen to the advice given before mine. really though, the stretching and cross training are great ideas. especially considering that some members in our gene pool have had issues with knees, etc. (think matt) no one wants joint problems in their 20s. lame.
that's awesome Katie!! I'm jealous you like running- I think Craig has picked it up recently too. My only advice (from my non-running days) is to STRETCH before and after! Good luck fit-momma!!
Hey there! Did you know I've been running? I did my first 5K a few weeks ago. I am up to 3.7 miles. I FINALLY took all the runners advice and went to a good shoe store who fit me with a good pair of shoes. Mine are Brooks, and they are good. I am sooo Jealous, I want a treadmill so bad!! I do love funning outside now that it is finally nice out. It smelled so good outside tonight....like SUMMER (not your friend, he he). Miss you!
